Tell us the suburb, the kind of meal, and what the kitchen did well. We will not turn a tip into a quotation, a review, or a top-ten. This page is for readers. Operators should use list your venue.

Tips help us improve the how-to-choose pages. They do not create an honour roll. If you want a public review, write one on a platform that still publishes them. If you want this guide to speak more accurately about Footscray, Burleigh, Pakington or Pall Mall, stay here.

What to include

  • City hub you have in mind
  • Neighbourhood or street, walked
  • Meal shape: lunch, family, banquet, late
  • Dishes you actually ate, in plain language: tom yum, som tam, green curry, krapow — not “the sampler”
  • What the kitchen did well: broth clear, herbs alive, heat split, rice steaming, dietary note heard
  • What failed, if it did: held soup, sugar-first pad Thai, unhearing service
  • Access notes that would help the next table

Do not insist that we name the room on a hub. Naming turns a method page into a directory we cannot maintain. Do not insist that we keep your wording. We will not publish your words as an endorsement.

Do not send photographs of awards, screenshots of lists, or “put us at number one”. That is not a recommendation; that is a ranking request, and we do not do those.

What we may change after a tip

We may add a choosing tell to a hub (“event nights in Docklands hide held food”; “Ballarat soup should be hot through the bowl”) because several tables reported the same pattern. We may clarify a tasting notebook. We may fix a recipe shopping note if locals say the grocer geography is wrong.

We may not write back quickly. We may not write back at all if the tip is only a name and a crown. The form still matters; patterns matter more than one glowing night.

Ethics of recommending

Recommend with evidence. A single mild massaman on a timid night is weak evidence. A salad, a soup and a wok dish are stronger. Read the matching tasting page before you write: Melbourne, CBD, Carlton, Docklands, Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Gold Coast. Steal our method, then tell us whether the neighbourhood matches it.

Do not recommend a room as “currently the only one worth visiting”. That sentence goes stale and it is unkind to a city’s pantry. Recommend a behaviour: a street that shops for holy basil, a room that will discuss shrimp paste, a precinct that needs indoor seating.

If your note is actually a complaint about this site — a recipe that failed, a hub that reads like a listing — say that. It belongs here as much as a suburb tip. The contact page is the same inbox if you would rather not use this form.

Independence includes declining to become a crowd-sourced podium. Thank you for writing as if the next diner’s herbs mattered more than a medal.

What people ask

Direct answers first

Will you publish my recommendation as a review?
No. Tips help us improve the how-to-choose pages. We do not republish reader quotes or maintain a live honour roll of restaurants.

Operator instead?

Use the listing page if you are writing on behalf of a room.
